WORKS ON PAPER - Mapping Subjects & Methods
This exhibition provides insights into subjects and methods of works on
paper by a select group of artists from The Guild's collection. 'Works on
Paper' is a category that includes a variety of techniques and a wide range
of mediums - all using paper as the ground. Paper has its historical context
connected to the trade with Arabs. Each of the techniques presented in this
exhibition also has a lineage: be it the watercolours that have been ancient
methods of painting or the techniques introduced by the West for
mass-production of popular prints. The manner in which these mediums and
techniques involving paper entered into curriculums in art schools is
another fascinating arena for exploring. WORKS ON PAPER - Mapping
Subjects & Methods is a survey of these aspects with a focus on the
technical facets that are often overlooked - while also probing into
the subject and thematic.
