When I heard the litho stones from Raja Ravi Varma's Press are
being used as floor tiles in the class rooms of an school in
Malvali, I felt sorry for the students who were forced to walk,
sit and study there. The trip I made with the help of Mr
Rajasekaran (reporter, Mathrubhumi news paper, pune) provided
some interesting information.
Students, teachers, and villagers are purely ignorant about the
importance and they are happy, at least they have an school to
study.
Some of the litho stones inside school still bear
images of Gods and Goddesses and there is an effort to replace
them. Mr. Mukesh Prabhune ( an artist from Chinchwad, pune) was
showing a pure interest in building a small museum of Raja Ravi
Varma's oleographs , litho stones and calendars which he has
collected with the help of villagers .This photo documentation
about the Press, School, Stones and charcoal drawings which i
saw around the press by "gipsy kids" are an effort to respect
Raja Ravi Varma and contribute in replacing the litho stones
from the school and the stones will be included in the museum
later. |
