AMITABH KUMAR

     

Amitabh Kumar is a designer/artist from New Delhi. He has graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda and has worked as a part of the Sarai Media Lab (2006 -2010) where he researched and made comics, programmed events, designed books and co-curated an experimental art space. He is visiting faculty to the Srishti School of Art and Design and Technology and is an initiating member of the Delhi based comics ensemble, The Pao Collective.

2008      Invited as an international artist for the Helsinki Comic Book Festival. This included an exhibition of
              artworks from ‘Helmet Man in Zamzamabad’( A work in Progress), a lecture/performance on Indian
              Action Comics and a workshop about the Superhero Comic Book Culture in India.

2006      Designed and Executed Mural, ‘Dilemma of the Techno hero’ (50 feet x 3 feet) for the
              Information Society Seminar in the Sarai-CSDS compound.

2009      Co Editor and Designer for the 1st PAO Comic Book Anthology of Indian Comics.

2009      Co-conceived and Illustrated, ‘Tinker Solder Tap’ a graphic book on the birth and evolution of media piracy in Delhi.

2008      One of the founding members of the Pao Collective- a group of Indian comic book artists,  
              consisting of Sarnath Banerjee, Orijit Sen, Parismita Singh and Vishwajyoti Ghosh.
 

2008      Researcher on the Global Heroes Pilot Project, undertaken by the Heidelberg University, Heidelberg, Germany.

2008      Created ‘ Raj Comics for the Hard Headed’, a comic book on the history of Raj Comics based on research in Sarai-CSDS. 

2008      Conceived a 7 member panel discussion/exhibition consisting of comic book authors and publishers at the World Book Fair.

2007-08 Conducted a 3 part comic book workshop in collaboration with the French Embassy.

2007-08 Conducted a series of ‘Comic Book Reading’s’ in collaboration with the French Embassy.

2007      Produced and facilitated ‘Co-mix/Comics’- a 2 day workshop on Comic Book making and production.

2007      Conducted workshop in IIT Powai on Tactical Media.

2006      Worked as visual advisor and research assistant on the Documentary, “ Masculinity and Moustaches”
