“One has to say that Reji is a struggling classicist in a disturbed world. Struggling because it is not easy to maintain one’s calm, one’s sense of order in a situation like ours. Reji does manage though. Unrest breaks through into his practice directly though cut canvases, bold ink drawings and scribblings, but in his large noble canvases, he does not allow the turmoil and commotion outside to overwhelm him. The looming threat is somehow contained. The sentient faces retain their glow, the agile bodies are graceful, the animals are alert and the air is still. We are given a view of what hope may feel like in our uncertain times.”
            - Sudhir Patwardhan, Foreword

The Good Earth was a mid-career retrospective of K. P. Reji’s works held at The Kerala Museum in Kochi in 2022–23 in collaboration with The Guild. The show featured works of the artist’s spanning over the twenty-five years of his practice, including early sketches and portraits of friends, to his latest works in silver foil. This volume covers the retrospective exhibition as well as his works over the last several years, along with installation images from The Kerala Museum as well as of other recent shows. This is supplemented with essential critical essays on his works by Suman Gopinath, curator of The Good Earth; Sudhir Patwardhan; Santhosh S.; and Professor Satish Poduval.

The Good Earth features 155 full colour images of 87 works.
